Blisworth Wildflowers, the native wildflower nursery that is a real hidden gem!

A few days ago, I found myself casually scrolling through social media when all of a sudden one of those “recommended for you” posts suddenly caught my eye. It was a post promoting a garden nursery, which was not only rather local to me but one which also specialises in native wildflowers. The nursery in question is called Blisworth Wildflowers, you can find their website here. Even though it is at the tail end of the season I just had to take a look and see the set-up for myself. The nursery itself is located at The Dairy, 4a Northampton Road, Blisworth, NN7 3DN, and is at the end of a lane with parking for a couple of cars at the end. I have to admit I didn’t know at the time that there was parking, so we parked in the village and walked up which isn’t much of a hardship and is actually quite a nice walk. When at the top of the lane you can find a few signs directing you to the nursery and when you walk through the trees you come out into a real hidden gem of a nursery. The first thing you see are rows of benches packed with British native wildflowers including plants such as Clovers, Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Campions, Scabious, Cranesbills, Knapweeds, Bugle etc. and this is only scratching the surface as the list is huge! For a list of the native wildflower plants they have had for sale this year, you can find it at the bottom of their About page on their website which you can access by clicking here. There are also plenty of other plants in the nursery and there is a great selection of non-native plants which are known for their qualities as great nectar sources for butterflies and bees. I told myself that I was just going to have a walk around, but I still ended up coming away with my arms full of plants ready to plant for next year! For anyone who wishes to plant native species in their gardens or wants advice on the best nectar sources for butterflies and bees, I can’t recommend Blisworth Wildflowers enough. If you have a lot of land, they can even help out with the planting of wildflower meadows. Speaking of which they have their own wildflower meadow which visitors are free to walk around when visiting the nursery. I had a great chat with Chris while I was there and it is obvious that he is as knowledgeable as he is passionate about creating wild spaces for nature. I will definitely be coming back next spring to stock up on plants for our butterfly-friendly garden here in Wootton. There will be a permanent link to them in the links section of this website.

The selection of native British wildflowers is very impressive!
