The Speckled Wood is a very common and widespread butterfly in Northamptonshire. Although the Speckled Wood can be seen anywhere near bushes and trees such as parks, gardens, lanes etc. it is primarily a woodland butterfly, and it is a familiar sight as it flies along the rides and tracks under the dappled light. Due to its abundance, it can often be overlooked which is a shame as it is an attractive butterfly with beautifully subtle underwing.
